Fire Weather Watch and Red Flag Warnings

• A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur.
• A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

When a Fire Weather Watch or Warning is issued for our area the following occurs for the duration of the event.

Suspended: All Issued DFPD Open Burn Permits

Highly Discouraged: Agricultural burns that are allowed through State Statue.

Discouraged: Recreation, Cooking, Warming Fires that are normally allowed without a permit.

Current Fire Restrictions

City of Durango – Fire Restrictions Enacted always.  Per City Ordinance, No Open Burning in the city limits.  Exception: Recreation, Cooking, Warming Fires on Private Property.

La Plata County – No Resctrictions Enacted

San Juan National Forest – No Resctrictions Enacted

Bureau of Land Management – No Resctrictions Enacted
